We are sad to announce that Jerry Springer has passed away at the age of 79.
The news comes after a long battle with colon cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2018. He continued to work until recently, when his health took a turn for the worst.
Jerry Springer was born on February 13th, 1944 in London, England. He moved to Chicago with his parents at an early age and eventually became an American citizen. He attended Northwestern University where he studied history and law enforcement. In 1968 he joined the police force in Cincinnati before becoming a lawyer for the state of Ohio in 1973. In 1974 he made his way to Cincinnati’s City Council where he served until 1977 when he decided to run for mayor against incumbent Timothy Martin O’Toole who had been in office since 1972.
In 1982 Jerry Springer ran for Lieutenant Governor of Ohio but lost to Lee Fisher who went on to become Ohio’s governor from 1999 through 2007. After losing this election Jerry Springer decided that politics wasn’t for him so he decided to try his hand at television journalism by hosting a local talk show called “The Jerry Springer Show” which aired nationally from 1991.
